The 2-year-old boy who fell into a defunct open bore well in Ummadivaram village in Guntur district was rescued after 12-hour operation by the NDRF rescue team early this morning today.
The boy identified as Chandrasekhar accidentally slipped into borewell while playing near a cattle shed, the police said. He was found trapped over 15 feet down in the borewell shaft by the rescue team who were pressed into service after his mother raised hue and cry.
The rescue team unlike in the past in Medak district of Telangana where in an attempt to lift the child with robotic hands, dug a pit parallel to the borewell pipe, while oxygen tubes have been lowered inside, a police official said.
Finally, the boy was rescued at 3 am alive and has been rushed to a hospital for treatment. Doctors declared the boy was safe. The District Collector Kona Sasidhar had rushed to the village and was present at the site throughout till the boy was rescued.
