The ongoing tussle over reservations between Adivasi and Lambada communities turned violent in Utnoor where mob violence reported at several places in the district. Adivasi groups in large numbers attacked several lambada Tandas damaging shops and other establishments besides injuring at least 5 people. The injured were shifted to hospital for treatment. Their condition said to be critical.
What started as an argument between the Adivasis and Lambadas over the reported insult to the statue of Komaram Bheem, soon led to the mob violence. It has spread to the other areas surround as the news spread forcing the Police resort to lathi charge. The cops have also used smoke bombs to quell the mob but in vain. Section 144 has been imposed in the agency areas following the unabated violence.
Karimnagar Range DIG Ravi Varma and the Adilabad District Collector have camped in Utnoor area and supervising the situation. Despite their best efforts the situation seems to have aggravated many more such incidents reporting from various parts of the district. Additional police forces were deployed in every Tanda to control the situation. A large number of arsonists were reported arrested at several places.
Meanwhile, few Lambadi youth staged a flash dharna in front of the DGP office in Lakidikapool in Hyderabad demanding action against the perpetrators. They shouted slogans against the government for not resolving their problem which led to the violence. They were later arrested by the police.
